“SEO”: just the word makes some people tremble. SEO is synonymous with thoroughness, hard work, technicality, (very) long-term work. SEO is essential but painful, very painful. To some extent, this judgment is not entirely wrong.
But several little tactics are very time-consuming yet effective. Some of them only require a few minutes of your time to set up. In this article, we’ll show you SEO tactics that work, that don’t take more than 30 minutes to set up, and that will allow you to improve your SEO significantly.
1 Create a Google My Business account
Local SEO is a significant part of the SEO, especially if you have a physical point of sale, and you are a convenience store (e.g., a restaurant, an architectural firm, a law firm, plumbing, heating engineer, etc.).
To quickly improve your local SEO, the best technique is to create an account on Google My Business. This will only take you a few tens of minutes and will allow you to be more visible on local requests.
Many businesses have yet to realize the opportunity that Google My Business represents. Being registered on this service is a golden opportunity to do better than your competitors. Note: registration on Google My Business is completely free.
2 Optimize your Google My Business profile
Already have a Google My Business account? Why not spend some of your time enriching your profile and making sure everything is set up, right? Here’s what you can do to improve your My Business profile:
Add additional information: timetables, parking, menu details, etc.
Choose more specific business categories (“delicatessen,” rather than “grocery”).
Add new photos and replace low-quality images with high definition photos.
Encourage your most satisfied/loyal customers to post a review on your profile.
3 Stuff your web pages with keywords
An old SEO practice consists of saturating your web pages with keywords for which you want to obtain better positioning. This tactic isn’t going to get you anything except a Google penalty for over-optimized content – we’re talking about Google because it’s the leading search engine, but it’s also true for others.
Today, Google uses latent semantic analysis to audit your website and rank it appropriately. What is it about? To put it simply, this process consists of analyzing more the lexical field rather than the words one by one. For example, Google considers the words “website creation” As being equivalent to“ website development.” Thus, your page can be classified for the two terms.
What to do?
Think about your readers and visitors, write optimized content for them before you optimize it for Google. Again, what’s right for your visitors is good for Google. We already covered this in our tips for writing a blog post.
4 The main thing is to have a lot of “backlinks.”
The Backlinks are links pointing to your web pages from external pages to your website. Their quantity was a guarantee of popularity and, therefore, highly valued by Google. This is no longer entirely true today! We must focus more on quality backlinks rather than quantity. If you have a few backlinks from authoritative referral sites, they’ll give you more SEO than an uncontrolled amount of backlinks from unsavory sites. It is not for nothing that Google allows you to disavow a backlink.
What to do?
Focus on getting quality backlinks; don’t neglect social media to help you accomplish this task. Connect with the people who follow you and whom you follow, and be inspired by “real life” because a quality backlink corresponds to a recommendation.
5 Lots of pages = lots of traffic
This assertion is false. Particularly since the launch of the Panda algorithm – don’t ask me how Google chooses its algorithms. This algorithm was mainly developed to counter sites with poor or weak quality content. Many “content farms” have seen their SEO switch overnight for the poor quality of their content. Usually, these sites offer a large number of pages whose priority is to target particular keywords. Not only is the content poor, but it is also over-optimized: double trouble!
What to do?
Providing content on your site is essential, but not at any cost. Take the time to publish quality and sufficiently rich information. Don’t race for quantity if you can’t afford quality at the same time.
